Star Recipes {Linky}

The following recipe collection started with our 2nd Make a Food-”e”-Friend Monday recipe potluck, where we asked Food-”e”-Friends to share their most popular recipe from their blogs. I knew with my days full of diaper changes, feeding, holding, hugging, playing, etc. needs to be met for my children, having the list open for just one day would mean a limited amount of time to invite people to share.

So we are keeping this list open and invite anyone with a blog to add their most popular recipe so far (if you know… if not, you can add a most popular recipe from any time period) to this collection.  Just find the category that best fits your recipe, and if you do not see a good fit, please email The Lucky Wife at theluckywife {at} thesaturdayeveningpot {dot} com.

All we ask is that you include our button in your recipe post (edit it to add the code):

The Saturday Evening Pot Star Recipes Collection

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you want to link a recipe here, please make sure it is your most popular (or one of your most popular… should be in your top 3!) recipe. We’d love for you to share any recipe of your choosing at any of our regular Monday linky parties, even themed ones, but this one is reserved especially for the “Star Recipes” as determined by your readers! We enjoy visiting each blog that participates and seeing the great ideas each Foodie blogger contributes, and we reserve the right to remove any recipe from this collection if your blog shows “Popular Posts” and the recipe linked here is not shown there as a popular post. Our intention is simply to ensure that when our guests visit this page with a certain expectation, we do not disappoint them.  Thank you for understanding.

And be sure to tweet this page to give your most popular recipe even more exposure:

MaFF Monday #33

Happy Monday!  We’re not having a feature this week.  With the Christmas series going on every day, it got towards the end of the week last week before I realized I had not selected someone for this week.  So I figured it was a good time for a little break for myself, but that we could still share recipes or other food posts.  I am also considering a different focus to begin after the New Year, but more on that later!

If you like to give Christmas treats from your kitchen, you may be interested in our current giveaway:

Just a few reminders before linking:

1) You can link any type of food-related blog post. Just make sure you use the URL for the actual post and not your blog so visitors can easily find what you wanted to share!

2) Don’t forget to link back to MaFF Monday, using either a text link, Make a Food-”e”-Friend Monday, or the button:

The Saturday Evening Pot

3) Most of all, have fun and be sure to grab a pen and paper, open Pinterest in a new tab, open up your notepad to jot down the recipes you find that you know you want to try.

I’m looking forward to seeing what everyone brings to the party this week.  :)

(Link-up open through Wednesday):

Have a wonderful week, Everyone!

Mozzarella Stuffed Meatballs from Mostly Food and Crafts {MaFF Monday #32}

Our must-try recipe this week comes from two young foodies, an 8-year-old and a 5-year-old, and let me tell you… they have good taste!  Look at what they made with their mom, Danielle of Mostly Food and Crafts, today’s Featured Food-”e”-Friend:

Photo used with permission; Credit: Mostly Food and Crafts

Now on the surface, this appears to be simply pasta and a meatball.  Remember that saying, “Never Judge a Book by Its Cover”?  This isn’t just “any old” meatball.  It’s got a yummy surprise inside…. mozzarella (as if you didn’t figure that out from the blog title)!

Mozzarella Stuffed Meatballs are what Danielle says would be her kids’ first choice of what we should try first from her their blog!  She says if you are cooking for kids, try this recipe because “they love the gooey cheese surprise in the middle.”

Here is what else Danielle had to share with us:

Tell us a little about the “birth” of your blog.  When and why did you decide to start?
I started my blog a little over a year ago. My husband took a job a couple of states away and the kids and I stayed behind while we tried to sell the house. Because of the distance, my husband was only able to come home every three weeks. The house wasn’t selling and I was having trouble sleeping at night with all the chaos going on (we lived like this for a year.) I started to browse around online one night, checking out some blogs and then I just went ahead and clicked the “create a blog” button and Mostly Food and Crafts was born.
I toyed around with a few different names and everything I chose was taken. I figured since I would be blogging mostly about food and crafts I would just use that as a name. Lately I feel like I need to change the name to “Mostly Food and Once in a While Maybe a Craft”. I love food; cooking it, eating it, reading about it and watching it on TV. My favorite thing though is introducing my kids to the many different foods out there and cooking with them.
I love that you showcase things you made with your kids! What have been their favorites and why?
I LOVE cooking with my kids! I would say one of our favorite cooking memories would have to be the Snow Cream day. The entire day was exciting because it snowed and the snow had accumulated a bit (this doesn’t happen often here.) School had been cancelled that day (we love snow days!!).  And we went outside to collect snow to make a treat with -how fun is that?
The kids really got a kick out of it and I had just as much fun as they did. If you ask my kids what their favorite recipes are they would tell you anything that allows them to lick a bowl or spoon afterward. My husband cooks too so we all spend a lot of time together making memories in our kitchen.

Which recipe would you recommend as the first your readers should try from your blog and why?
You’ve seen what her kids’ recommendation would be.  Danielle shared with us what her choice would be as well: Tandoori Chicken and Cucumber Raita.  She loves the flavors in this dish and makes it a lot.  She also said about it, “I’ve been called out on it a few times because it isn’t cooked in a tandoori oven and maybe I should change the name but the flavors are the same so I’m going to keep it for now.”
And… her husband’s choice would be Bolognese, which he requests a lot!
What feature of your blog would you like most for us to know about?
I have a tab titled “I Made It With My Kids” on the top of my blog page. Here is where you will find all the recipes and crafts that I have made with the kids. It’s my favorite part of my blog.

So whenever you’re in need of some inspiration for ideas of things you can do with your children, you will find lots of neat ideas there.  The most popular recipe from Mostly Food and Crafts is a toss-up between Zucchini Chips and Donut Muffins, which have been linked up in our Star Recipes Collection.  Check it out if you haven’t before or in a while.  New recipes are added there regularly.  Add yours if you haven’t already!

Before we get to our party, you may also be interested in Danielle’s current giveaway, My Memories Suite Software.

MaFF Monday #24: Meet Kristen of Frugal Antics of a Harried Homemaker

Today we are spending some time with Kristen, from Florida, of Frugal Antics of a Harried Homemaker:

1) Tell us a little about the “birth” of your blog. How long have you been blogging and why did you decide to start? Your blog is almost 3 years old… what is the greatest thing you’d say you’ve learned about blogging and would you have done anything differently if you were starting it today with the knowledge you have now?

I started my blog on a whim. I knew nothing of blogging, but had started reading a few that were referenced in a Yahoo group that I belonged to at the time. I thought that maybe it would be a great way to record some of the great family recipes that had been kept in our family for generations. When I started the blog (October 2008), my family was going through some crazy times. My husband’s business was having difficulties. My youngest son had undiagnosed bipolar disorder that was not being treated properly by his physician. “Harried” just seemed to fit my frame of mind.

I knew nothing about blogging. I certainly didn’t know how much time I would end up devoting to it! I have learned so much in the process. I have also met so many wonderful people from all over the world. Food blogging is a close knit community of thousands!

2) I love the Saturday Stories feature of your blog… what a great way to create a written record of your family history for your children and future generations. Do you have a favorite one, and if so, what makes it your favorite?

As a New Year’s resolution in 2009, I started “Saturday Stories.” Each week I record a story from my family’s history. Sometimes the post is about my kids, sometimes it is about my great great grandparents. I bug my parents for information when my own well of knowledge runs low. That has been a most rewarding undertaking. All three of my brothers have started tuning in each week to learn things they hadn’t known about the family. It has been a wonderful way to capture family memories. Perhaps one of my favorite posts in the series was the one titled “Having a Rainbow Family”, where I talked about adopting my four sons.

3) What feature of your blog would you like most for us to know about?

This year, I started “Your Recipe, My Kitchen” which is a linky party that anyone can join. I am making my way through a huge list of bookmarked recipes from other blogs. I always include a link to the recipe I make so others can check out that other blog, too.
Kristen says she’s not sure that there is just one recipe she would recommend as a starting point because there are so many different levels of cooks and so many different tastes. In 2010, she did a yearlong series called “Make Your Own Monday.” Each week, she made something that normally one would buy in a grocery store. Some of the recipes included pop tarts, egg McMuffins, candybars, twinkies and pizza rolls. Corn dogs and Entenmann’s cheese filled crumb coffee cake were two of my favorites. I think the coffee cake would have to be the first I’ll try!

You’ll want to check out her Giant Cinnamon Roll, part of our Star Recipes… add yours if you haven’t already!

Now, for your recipes or other food posts! If you are new, check out our Make a Food-”e”-Friend (MaFF) Monday page for more information on what this party is all about, specifics about how to link from your blog, and for more on how you can be a Featured Food-”e”-Friend in the future.

Just a few reminders before linking:

1) You can link a recipe or any type of food-related blog post (including giveaways or free food coupon offers). Make sure you use the URL for the actual post and not your blog (or those interested in what you are sharing may not be able to find it if it’s not your most recent post and will miss out on what you wanted to share!).

2) Don’t forget to link back to MaFF Monday, using either a text link or the button image. To make it easier:

3) Most of all, have fun and be sure to check out anything that interests you that others have brought to the party. (How else will you make new Food-”e”-Friends?!)

I would love to make it around to every single link each week (but usually am unable to), and I always enjoy seeing the different things that are shared and check back when looking for new ideas.

Mom-Friendly Recipes

When we first heard about the Ultimate Blog Party, we started thinking about what kind of party post we should write. The party is hosted by the blog, 5 Minutes for Mom, so we thought it should definitely be something specifically with moms in mind. Most, if not all, Moms probably find it challenging at some point in the parenting journey to find recipes that work well for their families, so we decided to put together some mom-friendly recipe collages.

These recipes come from one of three places on our blog:

1- Recipes previously served here at The Saturday Evening Pot in our regular weekly blog posts;

2- Recipes that have been popular on other wonderful blogs, in our Star Recipes Collection; or

3- Recipes shared by other gifted bloggers during our weekly Make a Food-”e”-Friend Monday recipe potluck parties.

(All photos for recipes from other blogs have been used in this post with the permission of the author of each blog.)

When you see something that you know you or your family will want to try, just click on the picture for the recipe. Be sure to bookmark this page so it will be easy to find when you need another great recipe idea, and don’t forget to tweet this page or share it with your friends through Facebook or other social media outlets (below).

Make a Food-”e”-Friend Monday #2: The MOST POPULAR RECIPES from the Food Blogosphere

Welcome! I got to thinking about the competition between our top recipes since we started this blog, which was just almost 2 months ago. Our blog is just a “baby” blog at this point, and it has been a lot of fun for us. {Back to my original thought on top recipes…} This got me curious about other Foodie bloggers and what your top recipes are out there in the Foodie Blogosphere. So I decided to ask Foodie friends to share your most popular recipe so far for today’s Make a Food-”e”-Friend party.

NOTE: I am leaving the linky lists open indefinitely so that new foodie bloggers who want to share theirs can do so whenever they “find” our party. I am posting a button to the sidebar where this party can be easily accessible for new foodie friends who want to post their most popular recipe and also for the rest of us to be able to check back for new recipes or find the ones that interested us when we’re ready to try them out.

Now, for the FREE FOOD:

You also need to include when the giveaway ends since this post will remain open indefinitely. Important: Please be sure to copy and paste the following in your food-related giveaway or free food coupon post (if the post has already been written, just update it to add this) to help Foodie readers make other Food-”e”-Friends and find other great FREE FOOD offers:

Last week, I shared that in the beginning, our top recipe was Paradise Shrimp over Jasmine Rice. Then we participated in another linky party, Soup-a-Palooza, and the Slow Cooker Italian Sausage, White Bean and Kale Soup quickly surged to the Number 1 spot! I’m curious to see if it holds that spot over the long haul. Since these are not new recipes, I will just share them through the links to the original posts above (as opposed to writing the recipe again in this post).

And now, for your most popular recipe….

Make a Food-”e”-Friend Monday

Welcome to our first Make a Food-”e”-Friend Monday!

Thank you for your patience while we evolved from starting out as Foodie Friday. We are new bloggers, and as with any new life experience, there is a learning curve. We are definitely learning as we go and having fun along the way.

We’ll go ahead and start with our “FREE FOOD” link-up by announcing a new way to enter our current giveaway, for Rosie’s Bakery All-Butter Fresh Cream Sugar-Packed No-Holds-Barred Baking Book:

The additional and easy way to enter is to leave a comment to the original giveaway post telling us which of the recipes from this sampling you would want to try first if you won the cookbook:

Apple-Cranberry Tart
Banana Custard Pie
Black and Whites
Brownie Cheesecake
Butterscotch Cinnamon Icebox Cookies
Caramel Apple Casserole
Chocolate Fruitcake
Chocolate-Bourbon Pecan Pie
Chocolate-Crusted Peanut Butter Pie
Cold Fudge Sundae Cake
Desert Island Butter Cake
Extra Extra Fudgy Brownies

Harvard Mocha Cake
Hermits

Nectarine Synergy

Peaches ‘n’ Cream Custard

They sound so decadent, it would be a hard choice for me if I didn’t love, love, love chocolate/peanut butter combos so much! That makes my choice easy PEASY: the Chocolate-Crusted Peanut Butter Pie. But wait! I guess I cannot enter the giveaway, which means, if I’m truly lucky, The Chef will get me a copy of my own. (hint, hint!) ;) (I would much rather be able to win it since it is a $50+ value!)

And now… link up your FREE FOOD offers…
The Scoop: Who doesn’t love free food? If you are a Foodie looking for free food, just click on the links below to see the details of each offer. We allow blog giveaways and coupon offers for free food only. This recipe was shared at Make a Food-”e”-Friend Monday at The Saturday Evening Pot. Join the celebration among Foodies of our love for food.

Anything besides blog giveaways will be deleted, and it must be obvious in the name of your giveaway prize that it is food-related.

And now it is time for the recipe potluck. This week, I have enjoyed watching a battle between three of our recipes as they compete for the top recipe spot! We participated in another recipe link-up event, and the recipe we linked there was wildly popular, so much so that it passed the recipe that had been the obvious favorite right from the beginning. I decided it “deserved” to be shared here after holding the Number 1 spot for so long:

It is definitely a big family favorite for us. I hope that you will try it and enjoy it as much as we do. And now for your recipe links… I’d love to see what recipe has been the most popular on your blog, but you can share anything you’d like. Please be sure to include the following in your recipe blog post so that everyone can enjoy all of the great recipes and blogs that participate:

This recipe was shared at Make a Food-”e”-Friend Monday at The Saturday Evening Pot. Join the celebration among Foodies of our love for food.
